70 lakh people are at risk of diabetes - Health-Teachers

Health is a thousand blessings “Ask people who are sick about the value of health. Our country is currently facing a serious health situation. Every second person in our country is suffering from stomach and high blood pressure disease while every fourth person is a diabetic patient. Diabetes is a silent disease that destroys the human body.

In fact, Pakistan is one of the countries where diabetes has been present for decades and efforts to control it are lacking. According to the official statistics, 70 lakh people in Pakistan are suffering from diabetes while the same number are on the verge of suffering from this disease if preventive measures are taken.

The World Health Organization and other international organizations monitoring diabetes say that if Pakistan fails to take measures to control diabetes, the number of diabetic patients in the country will increase to 1.4 million by 2040.

There are two types of diabetes. One occurs from childhood and the other occurs around 40 years of age. Type 2 diabetes is usually caused by changes in diet and the migration of people from rural to urban areas.

Dr. Sohail Ahmed says that there is a great need for awareness to prevent diabetes in Pakistan, our young generation especially needs awareness because one of the main reasons for the occurrence of this disease is our lifestyle. And are we eating quality food or not?

He said that unless there is awareness about the prevention of this disease at the official level, it is not only difficult but impossible to stop the increase in diabetes patients. According to the report of the World Health Organization, there is no operational policy or strategy for the prevention of diabetes in Pakistan.
